Flood sacks Abeokuta, sweeps vehicles away

Property worth millions of Naira were yesterday destroyed within Abeokuta metropolis following hours of torrential rain in the Ogun State capital.

  The downpour, which lasted about three hours, submerged bridges, vehicles and buildings in several parts of the city. Notable areas affected by flooding in Abeokuta included Amolaso, Sapon, Isabo, Isale-Igbehin, Brewery, Sokori, Oke-Ilewo and Kuto, among others.

  It could not be immediately ascertained the number of casualties during the incident. It was gathered that human and vehicular movements were paralysed while the flooding lasted. Some commuters and pedestrians, who spoke with our correspondent, said they had to t rek long distances before reaching their destination. Motorists who were trapped in the flood had to abandon their vehicles on the roads, resulting in traffic congestion in several areas.
