The Ogun State Government has vowed to participate fully in the project towards improving power transmission and sustaining adequate power supply to Ogun and Lagos States respectively.
Hon Olusegun Bolanle Gbeleyi, the Consultant to the Governor on Power, and the OGSG Coordinator for the TCN projects in the State made this known while receiving in audience delegates from the Japan International Corporation Agency (JICA) on a mission to Nigeria, at a parley held at the Conference Room of the Ministry of Agriculture, Secretariat, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
While explaining the commitment of Ogun State Government in fast tracking the project, Hon. Gbeleyi disclosed Governor Ibikunle Amosun is doing all within his means for the project to come to fruition.
Modality of the project according to Hon. Gbeleyi, "JICA is providing 200million USD, which represents a contribution of 85% of the cost, whilst the Federal and State Governments are to contribute 15% of the total cost of the project.
"Ogun State is to have five new substations built out of the six proposed to cater for the industrial growth in Ogun State with about 203km of new transmission lines for more efficient transmission of power to Ogun State.
"Existing communities and new town development will also benefit from the adequate power supply of electricity through the project."
He stated further that when the project is fully completed, it will considerably increase the volume of transmission from the National grid to Ogun State.
Gbeleyi said: "Two of the new substations are of 132/33kv capacity whilst three new substations will be of 330/132/33kv capacity, the first of it's kind to be built at one go in Nigeria."
The multi-million dollar project, was first conceived in 2014, and since the coming of President Muhammad Buhari into office, it has been put at the forefront by Mr. Babatunde Fashola, the Honourable Minister for Power, Works & Housing, in collaboration with Governor Amosun.
He reveals that the Ogun Government is indeed creating an enabling environment for the 12month Environmental Social Impact Assessment, adding that, "the report of the Resettlement Action Plan, which began in 2017 is now ready for the Panel review.
In the Ogun State Government team that received the delegation were: the Energy & Power team, Bureau of Lands & Survey, Ministry of Works & Infrastructure, Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Urban & Physical Planing and the Ministry of Rural Development & Electrification.
