Ahead of 2019 general elections , the social Democratic Party on Saturday screened five of its presidential aspirants at the Party Secretariat in Abuja.
Among those that appeared at the screening are Ambassador Felix Osakwe and Prof Jerry Gana.
Other presidential aspirants that participated in the screening exercise were John Dara , Donald Duke and Anli Hagher .
The party is expected to pick one of the aspirants in their primaries slated for October 6, 2019 . Ambassador Felix Johnson Osakwe who addressed the press after the screening exercise maintained that one of the reasons he joined the race is that it is a mandate from God .
According to him " I am in the race because it is high time for our youths to be remembered . I said this during my declaration that if I am elected as the president of Nigeria 50% of my appointment is going to be youths while 40% will be children of the poor . " he said .
" The only way we can have a new Nigeria is just more than , we will create job for the youths , we will empower the youths . This is not going to work . So the only way we can give birth to a new Nigeria is to allow the youths to come onboard, appoint them as ministers , Ambassadors , Executive Secretaries and DGs . It will allow them to appoint others . Once we have them in the system , you will find out that things will begin to work normal ."
Also , Professor Tunde Adeniran who is one of chieftains of the party said he is confident that any candidate presented by the party among the aspirants through Democratic process , will defeat any other presidential candidates from other political parties .
He promised that the party will not let Nigerians down , and they should expect good materials from the party at the end of their primaries .
