The Association of General and Private medical practitioners of Nigeria, Ogun state chapter has called on the Federal and state government to re-introduce health inspectors back to communities so as to reduce the rate of health issues in the country.
In a statement released to mark this year world health day, the chairman of the association in the state, Dr. Kushimo maintained that the primary health is the pillar of health and msg be supported by the government.
Kushimo added that primary health centres should be empowered to serve as the basis of health solutions to Nigerians.
He said, "The primary health is the pillar of health and it should be so supported and the institutions in that cadre should be empowered to function in that stead.
"Health insurance,a pool of fund, is the best way to provide ‘health for all’. The scheme should be stepwise from the primary health institutittons with focused funding".
He also admonished the people to take their health serious by going to hospital to complain when they are not feeling too good.
He added, "To achieve health for all, the Ogun AGPMPN advises that individuals should take their health issues more seriously.
"Unusual changes in any part of the body should be taken seriously.
"Headaches, pains and discomfort of any type in any part of the body is a call to attention.
"Disease conditions are easier to treat with an early detection which can only be achieved with early reporting.
"It is time to also know that prevention is not only better than cure, it is also cheaper.
"We should support and encourage immunisation at all levels.
"There is need to pay more attention to our environment especially in relation to filth, dirt and general wastes.
"The place of good food, adequate hydration and fruits for good health is very paramount.
"Individuals should watch what they eat in terms of quality and quantity.
"At the community levels, the CDAs should be the eyes of the government in ensuring that all houses have toilet facilities to prevent indiscriminate defeacation and urination in the community; these are reasons for disease spread within the community.
"Bushes within the community should be cut while adequate attention should be paid to drainages to forestal the menace of mosquitoes, rats and other inhabitants of such dirty places.
"Parents and managers of our educational institutions should be very vigilant with the manners and attitudes of our teeming students.
"Drug abuse and other vices which are fast becoming a menace can be better nipped in the bud if a place for hiding is not available in the school, home environment and between both.
"Government at all levels should be better ready to improve the health status of the populace".
