Gas explosion claims three lives, injures 15 in Lagos

 No fewer than three persons were feared killed while 15 others injured when a cooking gas exploded in a house at Ademola Adefiye area of Mile 12 in Lagos State. 

Though, the identities of those who allegedly died and the injured ones could not be ascertained, source said that they were all rushed to Gbagada General Hospital.

 It was learnt that while some were treated for minor injuries and allowed to go, those with second degree fire wounds were admitted at the intensive care unit of the hospital.

 Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Bala Elkana, who confirmed the incident, said that the gas explosion left 15 persons injured and properties worth several millions destroyed. 

He said that the incident at about 10.30am, Police received a distress call that cooking gas exploded in a building at Ademola Adefiye area, Ajelogo, Mile-12. 

“That the incident occurred when one Chinedu ‘m’, was cooking. 

Consequently, the building was gutted by fire.

 A combined effort of the Police, firefighters and emergency agencies successfully put off the fire and rescued 15 persons from the building with various degrees of injuries. 

The victims were rushed to Gbagada General Hospital and are now in stable conditions. 

Investigation is in progress to ascertain the remote and immediate causes of the incident, as well as the value of the properties destroyed” he added.
