A call has gone to well meaning individuals and corporate organisations to continue to support government in the delivery of quality education to to the citizenry.
Making the call on Thursday was the Founder and Director of ‘Destiny Support Africa Foundation of Nigeria, Rev. Mrs. Ayoka Olabisi at the commissioning of a block of two classrooms at Community Primary School, Areta in Odeda local government area of the state, donated by the Foundation.
Rev Olabisi said government alone cannot shoulder the responsibilities of providing qualitative and affordable education to the teeming masses, appealling to other private individuals, organizations and missions to partner with government in providing qualitative and functional education for the good of the people, irrespective of location, sex, ethnic and religion background.
She said she was moved to construct the classrooms when she knew that the pupils receive lectures under a shed, which she said was not conducive for learning
She noted that construction of the classrooms formed part of her foundation to give back to the society, adding that it will go a long way at boosting the morale of pupils and teachers of the school, adding that it will give opportunity to learn in a secured and conducive environment.
Speaking, the Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun reiterated the commitment of his administration to restore the lost glory of the state education system for efficient and effective performance.
Abiodun, who was represented by a one-time Chairman of Odeda local government, Alhaji Bola Lawal, said “our government shall ensure that our schools are conducive for learning through provision of adequate infrastructure and facilities in all schools”, adding that only effective and efficient education can guarantee desired growth and development of the state.
“We will embark on a massive capacity building program for our teachers to enable them upgrade their skills and qualifications in order to prepare them adequately for their unique role of imparting knowledge”
“We shall equally put in place a monitoring and performance management systems to ensure that all these interventions bear good results for the betterment of our dear state”.
While lamenting the level of decadence in the state education sector, the governor said, “we cannot afford to have our education, which should be the bedrock of all our development activities, our topmost industry- be in such a state”.
He said that the state legacy in education is being gradually eroded with the declining standards of education system in the state and uninspiring performances of the products in national and internationally moderated examinations, stressing that “restoring the glory of Ogun State education system requires an urgent, comprehensive and disruptive approach.
Also speaking at the occasion, the Olu of Alabata, Oba Abdulwaheed Sanusi charged pupils, teachers and indigenes of the community to make good use of the facilities provided through proper maintenance, so that the facilities can stand test of time.
The foundation also gave each pupil stationeries and school uniform
