In its bid in ensuring effective policing of the State, the Commissioner of Police in Ogun State Bashir Makama on Tuesday inaugurated the Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro and School of Nursing chapter of Community Police Relations Committee (PCRC).
Bashir Makama during the inauguration held at the Ilaro division of Nigeria Police, said the motive behind the inauguration is to involve all stakeholders in the business of security of lives and property.
He said the security of lives should not be left in the hands of security agencies alone, but the involvement of the students and and other stakeholders is to show that the job of policing has gone beyond arrest and prosecution, but preventing crimes so as to allow development to take place.
He said policing is practical, if it is missing, then the nation will not be at peace, it is not for Nigeria Police alone, but it involves all of us, because security business is everyone's business.
First and foremost, we must be conscious of personal security, if you are not save, you can not protect anybody, those Police you see on the streets are the engine room of the Police, they are the ones that give us the accolades you pour on Police today, without your supports, the Police would not be able to achieve anything.
CP Manana while also laying foundation for the official residence of the Ilaro area Commander and DPO, a project of PCRC, thanked the PCRC Ilaro division for the great job in assisting the police in ensuring crime free society.
He said the Police will not take their supports for granted but ensure that they intensify the effort in ensuring that the State remain peaceful.
He also used the occasion to launch the information boxes provided by the PCRC Ilaro division for all the Police divisions in the command.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Intro area command PCRC Chairman, Chief Popoola Safar appealed to all commercial banks in Idaho Division to be actively involve in PCRC activities.
He said the command is embarking on series of activities which include construction of Police post, and official residence for the Police area commander in Ilaro and many others.
While appreciating efforts of the Police in the State in fighting crimes, the Chairman pleaded with the Police Commissioner to assist in returning the armoured personnel carrier tank assigned to Ilaro be returned.
He also called for the reopening of the closed police post in Ivory Yewa and provision of more patrol vans.
In their separate goodwill messages, the State Chairman of PCRC, Pastor M. A Lawson and Southwest PCRC Chairman, Ibrahim Mohair Olaniyan said the incident of students of Federal Polytechnic and Ogun School of Nursing, Ilaro is part of effort at ensuring that the students also contribute their quota to the reduction of crimes in their campuses.
