Widows in Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government at a Budget Inputs Engagement Session (BIES) organized by African Foundation for Environment and Development (AFED) have demanded Free Medical Services and Empowerment amongst others from Government.
The BIES is a follow-up to the Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Budget Parley held recently and which was supported by the United Kingdom (UK) Department for International Development (DFID) under its program tagged, Partnership to Engage, Reform and Learn (PERL) where it was discovered that Youths, Widows and People Living with Disabilities (PWD) were not provided for in the Local Government Budget.
The Budget Inputs Engagement Session with Widows in Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government had in attendance the Local Government Chairman; High Chief Oladele Adeniji, the Leader of Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Legislative Council; Rt. Hon. Abayomi Joda, the Majority Leader; Hon. Abimbola Olaleye, the Chief Whip; Hon Jamiu Opaleye, the Executive Director of AFED; Mr. Adeshola Afariogun and the Widows.
The Widows demanded for employment opportunities for young Widows, employment opportunities for at least one child of old Widows, Finance for Widows who are trading, Free medical services for all Widows and their children, Educational support for Widow’s children, and Widows welfare package at festive periods.
In his Response, High Chief Dele Adeniji pledged his supports to the realization of their demands as much as possible.
The Chairman informed the Widows that the Local Government has been denied of funds to operate, he expressed his optimism for improved development at the Local Government level under the Prince Dapo Abiodun led Government.
In the same spirit, the Leader of Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Legislative Council. Hon. Abayomi Joda promised to include their demands into the budget as much as possible.
He prayed for the widows and advised them to uphold high moral standards and to train their Children in the way of the Lord.
Also speaking, the Executive Director of AFED, Mr. Adeshola Afariogun commended the Local Government Chairman and the Legislators for their presence at the Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Budget Inputs Engagement Session with Widows.
He was highly optimistic that the new Government will engage citizens for effective and efficient service delivery.
Mr. Afariogun advised the Widows to join cooperatives for more benefits from Government.
