Bagbe Community in Odigbo Local Government area of Ondo State was today thrown into confusion and pandemonium when Fulani herdsmen operated in the area for over six hours.
At the end of the attack not less than three persons were killed, many injured while no fewer than twenty building were set ablaze.
The attack came barely few weeks after the former secretary to the Federal Government, Chief Olu Falae suffered serious set back in the hand of the same group of Fulani herdsmen who destroyed his farmland at Ilado in Akure, Ondo State twice and also kidnapped him.
The former secretary to the Federal Government had in an interview called on the Federal Government to come to the rescue of innocent Nigerians in the hands of the rampaging Fulani herdsmen whose activities have been a source of concern in recent times.
It was learnt that tears flew freely down the faces of residents as they watched the rampaging Fulani herdsmen, shooting and stabbing innocent people who were already deep in their sleep.
The situation according to impeccable sources was reminiscent of the 1967-1971 Nigerian Civil War as the entire Community was turned into another war theatre, with people running in different directions, as they scampered for safety.
The attack was one of many of such, recorded in Ondo State in the last two years, since Fulani herdsmen shifted their in human activities to the south western part of the country.
Information has it that before yesterday’s attack, the community had last year been thrown into mourning and anguish, when some supposedly aggrieved Fulani herdsmen, killed a girl, Omolabake Adekanle, in her prime.
It would be recalled that residents of Bagbe Community have been sleeping with one of their two eyes opened as a result of the gruesome murder of Omolabake, who was first raped in her Uncle’s house by the Fulani Herdsmen who later dumped her corpse in a nearby bush.
The herdsmen, findings showed, were on a vengeance mission to Bagbe to protest the hard line posture of the community on the proposed Fulani cattle colonies by the federal government in the country, which was, allegedly spear headed by the Uncle of the assassinated girl, Mr. OlujimiAdekanle.
It was learnt that Mr. Olujimi Adekanle, his wife, Margaret and scores of other leaders of Bagbe, escaped death by the whiskers, as the herdsmen combed every nook and cranny of the community, searching for leaders of the town, who they suspected of working against their interest in the community.
Salient News gathered that, were it not for God’s quick intervention, all the four children of Mr Olujimi Adekanle, who is the public relations officer of Bagbe community, would have been killed by the Fulani Herdsmen who were bent on plunging his (Olujimi’s) home, into agony.
Though, the incident was said to have been reported to security operatives in the state, Salient News however gathered that no arrested had since been made as at as at press time.
A notable leader of the community, Chief Bode Ayelabola while speaking with journalists on the gory incident in Akure, lamented the killing of innocent people of the community, particularly the teenage girl, Omolabake Adekanle who was found in a pool of her own blood in a bush, last year after the Fulani Herdsmen had struck.
Chief Ayelabola called on the police and other security outfit in the state to brace up and ensure proper investigations into the killing of innocent people in Ondo State, asking that the herdsmen who attacked Bagbe Community should be brought to book.
