The Ibese Descendants Union has called on the Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun to intervene in the impasse surrounding the installation of new Oba of Ibese, of Yewa North local government area of Ogun state.
The Union who spoke in Abeokuta at a press conference also called on Kingmakers of Ibesheland to follow due process in the selection of new Aboro of Ibesheland.
The group said Prince Saibu Adekunle Mustapha, remains the best candidate for the throne of Ibesheland having met all criteria stipulated by the declaration in respect of Oba of Ibeshe chieftaincy made under section 3 of the then Western region appointment and recognition of chiefs law, 1954 by Egbado Ketu district council on the 27th of December, 1956.
Two ruling houses were recognised, and the order of rotation between Alangbo and Oloko ruling houses, the declaration also extensively dealt with the succession procedure to the throne.
The declaration, which was made at Igan Alade in December 1956 and approved by the then Minister of Justice and Local Government, Chief FRA Williams, stated that succession is only on male line from a ruling house but can only devolve on the female line when there are no suitable son from the male line.
The declaration said: “In the female line, the candidature is limited to the male descendants of the female line in the first generation (i.e. sons of the daughter). The declaration also stated the method of nomination from any ruling house.
"Ibeseland, with the declaration, had a very clear and well spelt out succession plan, and the expectation was that of a seamless process after the demise of the longest reigned Oba in Ogun state, Oba Joel Bamgbose from Alangbo ruling house, in January 2017, but the reverse would be the case and the community which houses one of the largest cement companies in the country remains without a leader.
In the address, the Union speaking under the title "Re- Justifying the rightful candidate of Aboro of Ibesheland among the contestants, said three contestants are from Oloko ruling House, with Prince Saibu Adekunle Mustapha of Oje Family, most fit for the exalted seat.
Presently, there are three contestants, from Oloko ruling House, but based on the principle of justice, fairness and in accordance with the declaration which empowers the ruling house to elect a candidate ‘who appears in the opinion of the family, most suitable’ to the kingmakers, Prince Saibu Adekunle Mustapha, from Oje family is the sole candidate presented for the throne of Aboro of Ibeseland.
He said:”We pray his Excellency compel the Kingmakers to follow due process and adhere strictly to the declaration as stipulated above in choosing Oba-Elect in Ibese
