After weeks of internal crisis that enveloped the members of Tricycle Owners Association of Nigeria (TOAN), Emirate tricycle Owners and Riders Association of Nigeria, peace has finally come to stay with the intervention of the state government.
The Kwara State Government through the Ministry of works and Transport had successfully settled the rift between the Unions to ensure they unanimously merge under one Umbrella as Tricycle Owners Association of Nigeria (TOAN).
According to a release by the Press Officer, Ministry of Works and Transport, Mansurat Amuda Kannike, the peace making session was led by the Permanent Secretary Dr. Yusuf Garba Manjo on Friday.
Dr Garba Manjo urged the two Unions to work hand in hand in order to further promote the tricycle business and boost mutual operation among tricycle riders and other riders across the state.
He advised them to avoid any act of violence that could destabilize the existing Harmony in Kwara State.
In his own reaction, the acting secretary for tricycle owners Association (TOAN) Mallam AbdulAzeez Baba Elesin appreciated the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) for accepting to merge with TOAN as one Umbrella Union.
Mallam Baba Elesin disclosed that the quarrel between RTEAN and TOAN has been settled adding that the two unions have agreed to work under a single umbrella known as TOAN.
Baba Elesin reiterated that TOAN is a Union which value security of lives and properties and that association would frown at any member who dares to disrupt the existing peace in the state.
Also in his own words, the Secretary RTEAN, mallam Hassan Daud Kasolayo maintained that their emergence into TOAN would encourage other sister unions to emulate them.
Mallam Kasolayo urged the government to help in promoting the tricycle business by providing tricycle at affordable rates for their members to buy.
Mallam Kasolayo also appreciated the state Government through the ministry of works and Transport for approving their certification as Tricycle Service Providers in the state and also for availing them the enabling environment to Operate in the State.
