The Seriki Fulani in Osun state, Alhaji Oluwatoyin Sulaeman, has appealed to his people whose cows were struck by thunder in Iba, headquarters of Ifelodun Area Office to remain calm.
Thunder on Saturday struck 19 cows belonging to some Fulani cattle rearers. Seriki said the occurrence has been accepted as God’s will.
Speaking with our Correspondent on Sunday, he debunked the report that some Fulanis have flee the state with their cows.
He said those people are Fulanis that are taking their cows to eat as usual, urging Journalists to always verify news before going to press.
He said the Fulanis have lived in Osun state peacefully for a long time with many of them already married Yoruba.
He appealed to the government to assist the owner of the dead cows with whatever they can, so that they won’t feel the loss too much.
Represented by his Special Adviser on Agriculture and Food Security, Abiodun Ajisefini, Governor Gboyega Oyetola had promised to assist the Fulanis.
He said, “We are indeed sad about the unfortunate incident. Lightning is a natural phenomenon that we have no power or control over. The traders who suffered this loss are part of us, not strangers. They have lived here for decades and I commend them for their exemplary contributions to peace in Iba community.
“I want to assure them of my support and indeed government’s support at a time like this.
