Lagos Plans To Retrain Teachers, Adjusts Primary School Calendar

Commissioner for Education in Lagos State, Mrs Folasade Adefisayo has stated that the State government will on Monday, launch its ‘EkoExcel Pre-Service Professional Development and Technology Training Programme” for teachers and headteachers in public primary schools across the State.

She also said the closing and resumption schedule for pupils in the 2019/2020 academic calender had been adjusted.

The adjustment would see students go on an immediate break to resume on Monday, January 20th, 2020 instead of January 6th.

The scheduled adjustment, she said, was to enable the State carry out the retraining process for the teachers, familiarising them with technological devices and modern approaches to teaching for better results.

The adjustments would not affect public secondary, and private primary and secondary schools in the State.

14,000 teachers are expected to be beneficiaries of the training exercise from about 1,016 State-owned primary schools.

Mrs Adefisayo stressed the need for critical investment in the education sector especially at the basic level.

According to her, it was necessary to invest at the primary level so as to cater for the future
