The first survival of coronavirusIn the midst of the daily occurrence of deaths which brings about untold sorrow and hopelessness in China, a 21-year-old Cameroonian who is a student in the Chinese city of Jingzhou, became the first to conquer the deadly Coronavirus also known as COVID-19.
The Cameroonian, identified as Kem Senou Pavel Daryl is regarded as the first African who was tested positive of the deadly disease which started in Wuhan in late 2019 and has spread like wildfire across virtually all the continents of the world.
As of February 17, 2020, the Chinese government said a total of 72,436 people are confirmed to have had the disease while 1,868 people have died, mostly in Wuhan, China, the epicentre of the outbreak.
In the case of Pavel Daryl, he told BBC that he was not ready to return to Africa despite being certified healed of the disease which currently has no cure. In fact, the Cameroonian is regarded as the first human being on earth that was healed of the disease.
“No matter what happens I don’t want to take the sickness back to Africa,” he said from his university dormitory, where he is now under a 14-day quarantine.
“When I was going to the hospital for the first time I was thinking about my death and how I thought it was going to happen,” he said.
Road to conquering Coronavirus
When the Cameroonian started suffering from a fever, a dry cough and flu-like symptoms, he remained in isolation in a local Chinese hospital for 13 days.
While at the hospital, he was treated with antibiotics and drugs typically used to treat HIV patients. He, however, started showing signs of recovery two weeks after rigorous treatment.
When he went through a CT scan, the result showed no trace of the illness, making him the first person to be so fortunate to recover from the deadly Coronavirus.
