The Ogun State government in collaboration with UNICEF have completed all arrangements to commence the mass vaccination of Children in the State against measles and yellow fever.
Speaking to Stakeholders including media men at Oke mosan Abeokuta, the State Health Educator, Primary Healthcare Development Board Alh. Waheed Elegbede, said the vaccination which will come up between Friday, 17th June - Friday, 8th July, 2022 will take place in public health facilities and designated vaccination posts such as Schools, Religious Houses, Industries, Markets, Motor Parks among others.
Elegbede who spoke on the theme: Role of Ministry of Information and strategy in projecting intervention on child survival and development, solicited for media intervention in enlightening the masses on the advantages of the exercise.
He said the vaccination is free adding that contrary to the house to house strategy, the vaccination will only take place at the designated places.
Elegbede confirmed that the vaccination for Measles and Yellow Fever in the State remain free urging women and parents to take advantage of the days earmark for the programme to visit areas nearest to them.
He told participants at the event that the objective of the meeting is to inform the media on how the information about the vaccination can get to the public.
Speaking on how measles and Yellow Fever spread, and how to identify it with the victim, Elegbede said it spreads by coughing and sneezing.
"It can only be prevented if we encourage the public by making sure that they get the vaccine because the vaccine fights measles and Yellow Fever".
"It is safe and very effective. It will also be an opportunity for the continuation of COVID 19 vaccine for those that have not been vaccinated.
He called on media houses to serve as a bridge between agency and the public for good information and feedback mechanism.
The meeting was attended by the representatives of Media houses, Online Newspapers, Ogun State Ministry of Information and Strategy, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Budget and planning and representative of National Orientation Agency NOA.
