The police in Bayelsa State have launched a manhunt on some youths who stoned a man said to be mentally deranged to death over allegations of witchcraft.
The incident, which occurred at Agudama Epie axis of Yenagoa, involved a mentally deranged man identified as John Dimie and youths suspected to be from the community stoning him from the rooftop of a building. A video recording of the incident went viral on September 14.
The police spokesman in Bayelsa State, SP Asinim Butswat, in a statement on Saturday, said that the viral video was being subjected to forensic analysis to identify the perpetrators and arrest them.
He warned members of the public to desist from taking the laws into their own hands, as perpetrators of jungle justice will be fished out to face the full wrath of the law.
