The Primate of the African Church, Nigeria and Overseas, His Eminence Julius Abbe, has called on public office holders to tackle the corruption bedevilling the country.
Abbe also urged politicians at the federal, state, and local levels of government to strengthen the economy for the benefit of ordinary Nigerians.
The cleric made the call in Lagos through a press conference address commemorating the 125th Founders’ Day anniversary of the church on Saturday.
He added that corruption must be tackled for the Nigerian people to enjoy the dividends of democracy.
“We seize this auspicious opportunity to call upon governments at all levels to intensify efforts towards improving the national economy and guaranteeing the security of lives and property,” Abbe said.
“Our nation must take decisive and uncompromising steps to curb corruption and enthrone fairness, equity, justice, and ensure that the dividends of democracy permeate to all citizens,” he added.
Abbe commended the leaders and members of the church for their dedication, asking them to remain steadfast.
“We deeply appreciate your immense and inestimable contributions to the growth and development of this Church birthed over twelve decades ago,” he stated.
The anniversary is scheduled to be held on Tuesday at The African Church Arch Cathedral on Broad Street, Lagos.
