The Managing Director of FairMoney Nigeria, Henry Obiekea, has stated that maintaining strict fiscal discipline and upholding investor trust remain the cornerstone of the company’s long-term capital raising strategy in Nigeria’s evolving debt markets.
Speaking on the heels of the successful redemption of its N5.86bn Series 6 Commercial Paper under its N10bn Commercial Paper Issuance Programme, Obiekea explained that the prompt repayment reflects the digital bank’s focus on responsible financial management and structural stability.
The company, operating through parent firm MyCredit Investments Limited, fully settled the exact sum of N5,860,319,000 upon maturity, reinforcing its corporate standing across local debt capital platforms like the FMDQ Exchange.
Emphasising the importance of maintaining investor confidence, Obiekea said, “Meeting our commitments to investors is fundamental to how we build and sustain trust. The full redemption of our Series 6 Commercial Paper reflects this commitment and our focus on responsible financial management. We appreciate the confidence our investors have placed in FairMoney and their continued support as we work to expand access to financial services in Nigeria.”
He added that market platforms like the FMDQ Exchange have provided a robust framework for fintechs and microfinance institutions to tap into domestic liquidity, enabling firms to optimise their capital structures and support retail credit expansion amid high interest rates and macroeconomic adjustments.
The redemption comes at a time when non-bank financial institutions and fintech lenders in Nigeria are increasingly turning to commercial papers and corporate debt instruments to diversify funding away from costly short-term liabilities and equity dilution.
Over the past three years, corporate debt issuances on the FMDQ platform have seen rising participation from licensed digital microfinance banks seeking to deepen credit penetration for micro, small, and medium enterprises.
Looking ahead, the digital lender reaffirmed its commitment to expanding its product offerings, which include retail loans, savings, bill payments, and merchant asset financing, while prioritising balance sheet health and risk management.
Licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria with customer deposits insured by the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation, FairMoney aims to leverage its disciplined funding model to deepen financial inclusion across the country.
