Ogun APC Primaries: Youth Group Warns Against Violence, Rigging

A group, Ogun Youths Democratic Movement has warned those planning to forment trouble at the All Progressives Congress (APC) primaries in the state to have a rethink.

The  group also issued a strong warnning to those that have perfected plans to rig the Ogun State governorship primary in favour of a particular aspirant, against the will of majority of the state's party faithfuls.

In a release signed by its Publicity Secretary Adegoke Ishola, the Youth group alleged those in the APC National Working Committee of being induced to destabilize the APC in Ogun State and give chance to opposition parties in the 2019 general election.

" We are aware that the APC in Ogun State opted for indirect primary mode, but the NWC overpowered it and imposed direct primaries.l".

"It was highly embarrassing and offensive to the sensibility of an average Ogun APC member that the NWC failed to conduct the election on September 30 as scheduled for all other states, aside Lagos and Imo. It was an aberration that the election was postponed indefinitely without a statement from the NWC. It is very disgusting that nobody deemed it fit to apologize to the teeming party members who had trooped out in their numbers to cast their votes. This shows insensitivity and poor administrative arrangement.

The latest in their scheme to rig the Ogun APC governorship primary is to impose the use of ballot papers on the party. This is uncalled for as it was not used in other states. The use of ballot papers is a ploy to rig the election in favour of their preferred aspirant. Section 20 of the APC constitution does not support the use of ballot papers for direct primaries. We all know how direct primaries are conducted. We want a transparent and open primary where all qualified party members queue behind their choice of aspirant openly. This will make the whole process more credible.

It has also been brought to our notice that the NWC, through this same set of people, has altered the party register by adding names of people who have never been  members of the party. This they do without the knowledge of the state chairman. We reject such an 'adulterated register' and we condemn this act in its entirety.

We hereby call on the National Chairman of the APC, Adam Oshiomhole, to avoid being misled by some individuals who want to hijack power in Ogun State at all cost without having any antecedents in the state.

Ogun State is a state of very intellectual individuals. They understand the game being played through your office and this might spell doom for the party in 2019. They are tired of power mongers infiltrating the state from somewhere else.

As a Chairman, we know you won't love to lose a state like Ogun. Please desist from being induced by some desperate politicians who are mere 'gold diggers'. They have not contributed anything to the development of the APC in the state. Most of them left the party and worked against it. Most of them have decamped to another party, yet they still want to vote in the APC primaries. Where is party loyalty?

Just last week, you disqualified a governorship aspirant because you said her loyalty is in doubt. You were able to do this because you know much about her. How much do you know about aspirants and some acclaimed leaders from Ogun State? Most of them are guilty of antiparty activities.

The recent poor outing that the APC suffered in Osun is still fresh in our memories. Your party narrowly escaped being disgraced out of power. It might not be that lucky elsewhere next time.

Please stop them from jeopardizing the future of Ogun APC. We want a free, fair, transparent and credible primary in Ogun State. We say not to secret ballot. It is aimed at rigging.
