Worried by hardship faced by widows in the society, A
renown Radio broadcaster and Presenter, Sunday Ogunsola, popularly called Tantala
has empowered about Two Thousand widows with cash gifts and foodstuffs even as
he assisted some with payment of hospital and medical bills.
The founder, Sunday Ogunsola, a.k.a Tantala who is a
veteran Journalist and radio Presenter noted that the foundation was set out to
empower women, especially widows in Nigeria explained that as a broadcaster, he
is using his skill to facilitate assistance from well meaning Nigerians, to
assist the Widows with cash gifts and skill acquisition.
Speaking at a three in one celebration held in
Abeokuta, over the weekend, Ogunsola who used the occasion to reward those who had
been supportive of the Foundation about two years when it started also used the
occasion to distribute foodstuffs to some invited widows.
He revealed that beyond skill acquisition, money and
food items that the foundation gave to the widows, the founder said the
foundation also ensured that medical bills of the sick are also provided for.
“It may be a
big deal for them to go to the hospital for treatments because of finances, hence
the reason we decided to bring work with some individuals who have been very
supportive.
On the agenda of the foundation, Sunday Ogunsola
said the foundation is a Non-Governmental Organisation that has an agenda
geared towards women empowerment, in the form of skills acquisition and
financial assistance; health intervention; basic education for kids of the
underprivileged in the society and nutrition.
He said, “We announced through Our radio and
Television Programmes for good spirited individuals to help the underprivileged
widow in the society and today we are celebrating and rewarding those who had
responded positively to our clarion calls.
We also do collaboration and partnership with organizations
and we are still reaching out to government and individuals to assist us, so
that we can reach out to a larger number of widows and underprivileged in the
society ”
Calling for support from government, Ogunsola said
if the government could support the Foundation in the area of training these
widows, it will assist in uplifting them and assist in giving them new life.
We are also hoping that organizations would come in
to assist us also.”
Responding one of the widows, Mrs Oluyemi Olopade
said since her husband died in 2007, leaving her with 6 children to cater for
alone, she has been moving from one relative to another, begging for alms.
For her, with the assistance from the cash assistance
from the Foundation, she would start selling some things to cater for her immediate
needs.
