Worried by the spate of kidnappings ,banditry and other criminal acts ,a veteran Politician has called on Yoruba Elders to rise up and holistically address the insecurity before things fall apart.
Dr.Olapade Agoro,the former Presidential candidate of National Action Council (NAC) made the call during a chat with our man and called on Yoruba leaders to rise from their slumbers because things are no longer at ease in the South West.
Agoro who is also the Owa Tapa of Itapa in Osun state disclosed that the Boko Haram who escaped from the North East of the country have found the South West an appropriate zone to perpetrate their criminality through kidnapping for randome adding that they should be tamed immediately.
"What so ever condition forces an house master to run widely naked out of his house shouting and crying for help must be perceived an indication suggestive enough of fire on the mountain beyond the usual.
"That State Governors of the South West region of Nigeria for the endangered situations within their reign of authority were compelled to run to the Military Assistance and protection against horrors of kidnappings must be enough trepidation signaling last day horror of Armageddon unfolding.
"The Constitution of Federal Republic of Nigeria assuredly placed the security of States of the federation on the firm shoulders of the State Governors with the Commissioners of Police in charge of security mechanism guarantee,he said.
The veteran politician noted " However with the security situations in the South West sub region of the nation having seemingly been made parlous, fearful and threatening beyond the reach and capability of the Nigeria Police forcing the State Governors running out of their State Authorities and placements to the Military seeking for assistance must be enough a story telling of the heads no longer resting well on the necks.
He listed out that"The gory security situations of Kidnappings unleasement in particular on good and hospitable people of Yoruba States chronicling the like of an embarrassing Kidnapping attempt along Akure – Ibadan road on Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State; Abduction for ransom payment of a traditional ruler’s wife Olori Olukemi Agunloye along Auga – Akoko road some time June 2018; Abduction and dastardly killing late year 2018 of 52 year old lecturer Taiwo Akinyemi, Lecturer at Rufus Giwa Polytechnic Owo, just to mention a few must be seen weightier than what Governor Akeredolu narrowly surmised that “ I have encountered them before.
So, the security issue is not limited to the masses alone. My convoy was targeted but my security people shot into the air to scare them away. They fled into the bush on Akure – Ibadan road”
