...warns against politicising waste disposal

Oyo State Government on Thursday debunked rumors making the round that the State governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde has directed that residents should no longer pay for the disposal of their wastes describing it as untrue.
The State Head of Service, Alhaja Ololade Agboola denied the claim during a strategic meeting with critical stakeholders on environmental sanitation in the state held at the House Of Chiefs, Secretariat, Ibadan
"This is not true, we don't want them to introduce politics into issues of refuse disposal and management. Every residents of Oyo State should have waste bins where the should dump their refuse and refuse contractors will come and pick them up.
Agboola warned that there should be no dumping of refuse on road median revealing that a mobile court or environmental sanitation tribunal had been set up to caution violators of environmental laws of the state.
" We want our people to take caution , don't drop your refuse on the road . The government has not come out to say dumping of refuse is free", she stated
She solicited the cooperation of the general public in ensuring a clean environment in order to make the state one of the cleanest in the country
Both the Permanent Secretaries in the Ministries of Information Culture and Tourism and Environment and Water Resources, Mr Bashiru Olanrewaju and Mr Oguntola Gabriel respectively, seek the cooperation of residents of the state in ridding the state of filth
The COO West Africa Energy, and Consulltant to the state government on refuse disposal, Mrs Lolade Oresanwo also urged residents to support the effort of the state government to making the state clean so as to attract investors to the statothers
The meeting which is part of an ongoing sensitization and mobilisation exercise by the state government had in attendance representative of food sellers, Livestock farmers , environmental health officers and refuse contractors in the State.
