Two lives have so far been lost in the raging Ijegun pipeline fire outbreak.
Although, these deaths have been recorded as that of vandals responsible for the incident. Over 30 cars were also affected.
Efforts is in top gear as NEMA men is unable to handle the fire but is awaiting response from the NNPC fire team.
The fire which started at about 3am is still on at about 12pm, Thursday. Fire fighters have been going in turns to refill their tankers
According to NEMA south-west public relations officer, Ibrahim Farinloye, there was no need to worry as the fire is under control.
“Two deaths of the the vandals have been recorded out the scene of the incident. 31 vehicles burnt.NEMA has alerted the management of the NNPC on the early morning pipeline vandalisation fire outbreak at Ijegun, Lagos state.
“NEMA has also called on the safety Unit of the corporation to immediately shut down further supplies through pipeline in order to suffocate the fire,
“It is noted that vandals are responsible for the incident and some of them are affected in the inferno.Security Agencies have condone the area against access by undesirable elements. People should remain calm.
“Pipeline fire is a specialise fire management, not all firemen can handle it. NNPC safety firemen are specially trained to handle such delicate incident and that is why NEMA mobilised the NNPC to mobilise to the scene.
“It will (take) time before the inferno can be tackled; until the supplies from the pipeline is weak and disabled, when supplies are shutdown and the main source and valves closest to the scene (is disabled),
“In as much as lives and property of the people are not threatened, the fire will be put off as soon as the safety of the fire officers are also assured,” He said.
