Leave my son alone, woman pleads with traditional chiefs

A business woman, Mrs Olayinka Olagbegi says the life of her son and other members of his son's immediate
family are no longer safe as suspected cultists continue to run after them over succession process to the
throne in his home town.

Mrs Olagbegi, resident of Ikotun area of Lagos hinted that suspected cultists from Owo,
Ondo State have been searching for her son, Prince Olawale Olagbegi who they wanted to fulfill an oath
sworn to by his late grandfather so that he, could be in line for the vacant stool in the town.

She was speaking at a family meeting in Owo to trash out issues bothering on her son, who refused
to be part of the succession process because of the traditional rites expected of each prince in line for
the
throne to perform.

"Be informed that problem started with my son in 2015 when the traditional priests led by the town's Chief Priest, visited him in Abuja
reminding him of the oath earlier sworn to by his grandfather that his direct male descendants must be
initiated into the royal cult, hence he is expected to perform some rites ", Mrs Olagbegi added.

Speaking further, the woman who confirmed that her son, Prince Olawale refused to be part of the tradition
of his fore bearers because of the condition attached, which are contrary to his Christian belief, part of which is the traditional circumcision of his daughter, explained that
more than twice, her son and his family have gone through agonizing experiences in the hands of the
same Chief Priest and his goons.

"It will interest all of you to know that in 2017 to be precise, the Chief Priest went to Olawale's aunt,
who is now late, reporting to her, the refusal of Olawale to honor his grandfather’s sworn oath which to
them, connotes bad omen. They vowed to enforce the oath ". She added.

Mrs Olagbegi explained that there have been several harassments of her son and his family, noting that some the incidents were reported at
the Police Station, "but as I am talking to you, nothing has been done to apprehend the perpetrators of
this acts of terror and harassments".

The woman who broke down in tears, appealed to well meaning sons and daughters of the town to prevail on the Chief Priest to leave her
son alone, since his faith, as a Christian, abhors oath taking and making of sacrifices.
