Uphold your integrity as Supervisors: Zonal Secretaries charged

Zonal Secretaries in the Ogun State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM) have been charge to uphold integrity in discharging their duties, as their roles as supervisors cannot be relegated to the background in educational development.



 
The Permanent Secretary, TESCOM, Mrs. Mojisola Dosunmu, gave the charge while declaring open a day in-house training programme on " Supervisory Management and Effective Communication Skills", organized by TESCOM at the Conference Room of the Commission in Abeokuta.

          
Dosunmu, who was represented by the Director of Information in the agency, Mr. Kehinde Onasanya, emphasised that effort of the State government to revamp the education sector has gone beyond business as usual.

          
Speaking, the Director, Local Government Affairs, Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mrs. Adetoun Osasona charged participants to be assertive and stay away from acts that could destroy their professional career.

          
She said their role must be complementary in accordance with the State government’s policy on education, adding that bad supervisory role begets lower productivity and distorts flow of communication from the top to the bottom.

"Your role as zonal Secretaries must be complementary to the present administration policy with regard to education sector,as you need to develop performance goal, providing fair, constructive and timely feedback to the managment as well as getting involved in assignment and activities with visible supervision to boost the moral of the principal" She said.

          
In his paper, titled, "Effective Communication Skills", the State Director of Information Mr. Kehinde Onasanya, urged the participants to handle communication issues with care and avoid disseminating sensitive information inaccurately, particularly in this era of Information Technology (IT).

          
He said zonal secretaries should always feed the Commission with correct data on monthly returns from schools, to guide against lopsidedness in the posting of teachers, especially in core subjects and conduct investigation on both teaching and non-teaching staff in cases of financial misconduct.

" As zonal secretaries, you are information managers and you must feed the commission with accurate information and manage the career of your subject from the first day of appointment till the last day in service, doing this will avail the commission against lopsidedness in the posting of teachers, especially the ones taking core subjects " Onasanya said.
