Former Ogun state Governor, Senator lbikunle Amosun on Thursday in Abeokuta called on all Nigerians to continue to persevere saying that the current challenges facing the country are not insurmountable.
Amosun who also aspired to be Nigeria's president, but withdrew few minutes to the Presidential primary of the ruling All Progressives Congress said his ambition to govern the country is of insignificant compared to the general interest of the country and the South West in particular.
Amosun, who is the senator representing Ogun Central at the National Assembly, dropped his
Presidential bid for Asiwaju Bola Tinubu who eventually emerged as the All Progressives Congress
flag bearer at the Party's Presidential Primaries held on June 7 in Abuja.
Amosun while addressing his supporters at Ake Palace ground in Abeokuta said the passion to ensure South West emerged as the APC Presidential flag bearer override his personal ambition.
"My ambition to be President of NIgeria is just 20 percent and 80 percent of it is that of the South West, and Lo and behold, Almighty God has answered that prayers and ultimately Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu who is our flagbearer will be President of this nation.
"So, What I want you to do, all the love, all the support and all the prayers that you have been giving to me, I am not saying you should stop, continue to give me that prayers, but extend that prayers to our party at the national level, as you are giving it to me, please extend it to our flagbearer", he pleaded
I have also told my close associates about two years ago that I desired to be president of the nation, but that my ambition cannot supersede or override the general interest of the south-west or the entire nation.
“We do not have another country except Nigeria and I am sure Nigeria will be great. We all need to join hands and collaborate with and support Tinubu to succeed Buhari.
“Tinubu will still move around the entire country to campaign and he will definitely come to Ogun and visit places like Ilaro, Ijebu, Abeokuta and other places to solicit your support.
“Let us please support him to win the 2023 presidential election.”
Amosun, while calling on all Nigerians not to lose hope at the current challenges facing the nation, urged Nigerians to collaborate and support the administration, adding that the country's challenges are surmountable
"We will over come, bit by bit Nigeria will be great. Trust me l tell you, except for the insecurity affecting the achievements of this administration, Good times will return, I know it is a passing phase, we will get there".
Expressing gratitude to the members for the massive turnout, Amosun said" within 24 hours of planning this, you all turn up in large numbers, it truly shows you love APC.
