Ogun youths pledge to reject cultism, drug abuse, cybercrime — Police

Hundreds of teenagers and young adults in Ogun State have pledged to reject cultism, drug abuse, cybercrime and related social vices following a youth sensitisation programme organised by the Ogun State Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices, POCACOV.

The engagement was held during the Royal Ambassador Ogun Baptist Conference, Ephphatha 2026, according to a press release issued on Monday by the Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, Ogun State Command, ASP Oluborode Opeyemi.

Aligned with the vision of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, and under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, the Ogun State POCACOV team, led by State Coordinator ASP Oluborode Opeyemi, conducted the youth sensitisation programme.

The police said the “high-impact engagement empowered hundreds of teenagers and young adults with critical knowledge to resist negative social pressures,” resulting in a collective pledge by the attendees to reject cultism, drug abuse, cybercrime and related social vices in favour of positive community leadership.

During the interactive sessions, ASP Oluborode Opeyemi and the POCACOV team highlighted “the severe, long-term dangers associated with active involvement in cultism, gang violence, substance abuse, cybercrime and other social vices.

The team provided real-world insights into how the illegal activities destroy promising futures, compromise personal safety and undermine peace within academic institutions and broader society, the statement said.

The sensitisation emphasised proactive values centred on self-discipline, constructive peer influence and personal accountability.

POCACOV officers urged the “young participants to recognise their role as key stakeholders in building safe environments, demonstrating how strong character choices and early ethical leadership serve as the strongest deterrents against criminal temptation.”

The engagement concluded with a unanimous pledge from the participating youth, who committed to upholding high moral standards, resisting illicit temptation and serving as anti-vice ambassadors within their respective schools and communities.

Meanwhile, the Ogun State POCACOV reaffirmed its dedicated mission to continuous community policing and youth-focused preventative outreach across the state.
