Thousands of residents of Mowe, a town in Obafemi Owode local government area of Ogun State on Tuesday took to the streets to protest against alleged demolition of their houses by the State government to pave way for the construction of a modern stall.
The protesters led by Comrade Abowaba Azeez while speaking to newsmen said the Ogun State government in collaboration with a Private developer has concluded arrangements to demolished their ancestral homes without providing an alternative homes for thousands that are going to be affected by the demolitions.
He said there are already a plan to allow a Private developer take over the buildings and give it out to highest bidders.
The protesters who carried different placards appealed to outgoing Governor Ibikunle Amosun and the incomimg Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun to as a matter of urgency intervene in the matter before it generate into serious crisis.
We as a matter of urgency plead with Governor Ibikunle Amosun and Prince Dapo Abiodun to help us out. If these people were allowed to carry out the demolition, not less than Two thousand households are going to be affected with none having a hope of where to lay their heads.
He said many of the affected houses should have been allowed to stay and serve as a monuments since the buildings are the first sets of houses to be constructed in Mowe.
The protesters also indicts some Chiefs in the town and the Local Council development area Chairman of aligning with some Egba high Chiefs on order to dispossess them their family heritage.
'It was just few days ago that the government officials came here and gave us Seven days ultimatum to vacate the buildings, and later came back about two days to tell us to vacate the houses tomorrow.
