…Pledges constant engagement, federal projects across 15 wards
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for the Abeokuta South Federal Constituency in the 2027 general election, Chief Toyin Amuzu, has officially flagged off his campaign, with a strong pledge to run an all-inclusive and people-centred representation if elected to the House of Representatives.
The campaign flag-off took place on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, at the Ake Pavilion, Abeokuta, and was attended by the Ogun State PDP governorship candidate, Hon. Oladipupo Adebutu, his deputy governorship running mate, Alhaja Yemi Kolapo-Showunmi, as well as party leaders, members and supporters from across the state.
The event marked the final stage of the party's campaign flag-off tour across the three zones of Ogun Central Senatorial District, with earlier stops in Ifo and Abeokuta North Federal Constituencies before the campaign train moved to Abeokuta South.
Addressing party faithful and residents at the colourful gathering, Amuzu assured the people of Abeokuta South that he would not be a representative who would abandon his constituency after securing election and relocating to Abuja.
He said that, by the grace of God, if elected to represent the constituency at the National Assembly, he would maintain regular contact with the people and constantly engage them to understand their immediate needs and challenges.
According to him, effective representation goes beyond occupying a seat in the Green Chamber, stressing that a lawmaker must remain connected with the people who gave him the mandate.
Amuzu said:
«“By the grace of God, if elected to represent the good people of Abeokuta South Federal Constituency at the National Assembly, I will run an all-inclusive representation. I will not sit in Abuja after my inauguration and forget the people who elected me.»
«“I will continue to engage our people from time to time to know what they are lacking and what their immediate needs are. Representation must be about the people, and that is the kind of representation I am prepared to offer.”»
The PDP House of Representatives candidate also promised to attract meaningful federal presence and developmental projects to communities across the 15 wards of Abeokuta South Federal Constituency.
He assured residents that every part of the constituency would benefit from his representation, adding that no ward or community would be neglected.
Amuzu, while taking a swipe at the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), accused the party of making promises to the people during electioneering campaigns without fulfilling them.
He said the people of Abeokuta South deserved leaders whose actions would speak louder than campaign promises.
The House of Representatives hopeful said he had already demonstrated his commitment to the welfare and development of the people, even without holding an elective public office.
He pointed to several empowerment and humanitarian interventions carried out across the constituency, including the provision of boreholes to communities facing water challenges.
Amuzu also said thousands of youths had benefited from his empowerment programmes through support for small-scale businesses and the provision of take-off grants.
According to him, his intervention programmes were designed to encourage economic independence, reduce unemployment and support young people to become productive members of society.
The PDP candidate further disclosed that he had operated a non-interest loan scheme for traders and business owners, with the aim of helping them expand and sustain their businesses.
He added that he had consistently provided relief and assistance to aged and vulnerable residents, particularly those who are helpless and unable to cater adequately for themselves.
Amuzu said these interventions were clear evidence that public service and leadership were not only about occupying political offices but about positively impacting lives.
“I have demonstrated my capacity to serve even without being in office,” he said.
“I have provided boreholes, empowered thousands of our youths with small-scale businesses and take-off grants, supported traders through non-interest loans and provided relief for elderly and vulnerable members of our society.
“These are not just promises. They are things we have done, and by the grace of God, if elected, we will do even more through effective representation at the National Assembly.”
Speaking on his legislative agenda, Amuzu pledged to sponsor and support people-oriented bills that would improve the welfare and living conditions of Nigerians.
He said he would ensure that his activities at the Green Chamber would be guided by the interests of the masses and the developmental needs of his constituents.
The PDP candidate promised to support legislation that would promote economic opportunities, youth empowerment, improved welfare, social justice and other policies aimed at improving the lives of ordinary Nigerians.
The campaign flag-off was attended by PDP leaders, stakeholders, members and supporters who reaffirmed their commitment to the party's campaign ahead of the 2027 general election.
With the final leg of the Ogun Central campaign flag-off held in Abeokuta South, party leaders expressed optimism that the PDP would secure widespread support across the three federal constituencies in the senatorial district.
For Amuzu, however, the message was clear: his ambition is not merely to occupy a seat at the National Assembly, but to provide accessible, responsive and people-driven representation for the people of Abeokuta South Federal Constituency.
